Scór na bPáistí
The West Mayo Scór na bPáistí final took place on Thursday 22nd of February. Newport NS entered five competitions...
Alanna Holmes was first onstage for Newport and she performed 'Báidín Fheidhlimidh' in the solo singing section.
Victoria Palamarczuk, Isobel Murphy, Alanna Holmes, Bonnie Scott and Saoirse Chambers sang Lanigan's Ball and Óró sé do Bheatha 'Bhaile' in the Ballad Group competition.
Darcy Fernanades Moran represented Newport in the Sean-Nós Dancing Section.
After a short break, it was the turn of the Grúpa Ceoil - Shane Rothwell on concertina, Finn Mac Donnchadh played the flute, Isobel Murphy on tin whistle and Laura McNulty and Kate Riordan played the fiddle. They performed two tunes 'The Magic Slipper' and 'The Whistling Banshee' and did a fine job on both. This was a hotly contested section with 14 grúpaí ceoil taking part.
Finally, the set-dancers, Ruby Brady, Eva Malinovskja, Max O'Rourke, Oisín Holmes, Abi Connaughton, Darcy Fernandes Moran, Robbie Dockery and Darragh O'Malley, waited patiently until 10.45 to perform the Kerry Set. Despite the late hour they danced to their usual high standard!
Darcy will go forward to the County Final in Carnacon on Saturday 9th of March along with the set-dancers.
We are so proud of all the competitors for their hard, work dedication, patience and excellent behaviour on the night. They are very worthy students who performed very competently and confidently.
A big Thank You to Ms Lee for preparing the singers and Caroline O'Malley for mentoring the set-dancers and to the musicians themselves for practicing so hard in their own time.
