Mini-7s

On Tuesday 17th, in bitterly cold conditions, the girls of Newport N.S. competed in the West Mayo INTO Mini-7s football competition in St. Brendan's Park, Kilmeena. First up were Cogaula/Cloggernagh, who put up a brave showing before the Newport team won comprehensively. The next match was against local rivals Kilmeena and after a tight opening few minutes, our girls prevailed with some scintillating attacking play and tight defence. The final game in the round-robin group was against last year's winners and favourites, Brackloon. The girls battled valiantly and showed great grit and determination but were unable to overcome a powerful Brackloon team.

Many present commented on how well the girls conducted themselves on the day and no doubt we have some future stars in their ranks. Well done girls!
