Mayo Dark Sky Festival
Many of you attended the 5th Mayo Dark Sky Festival on 31st October. Our 2020 festival was a little different as it was a virtual affair, but we were overwhelmed with the response and interest, with 1,366 people from 25 countries registering for the day's events, spanning the entire globe!
Most of the talks are now available to view on our YouTube channel, so it might be a nice thing to look at over the Christmas Holidays with your family (older children in particular).
Topics covered include a wonderful personal journey through the Nephin Beg mountains by Michael Chambers, a look at horseshoe bats in Mayo, old Irish Halloween traditions, a look at the night skies of Australia, a virtual tour of the night sky, and a very insightful and engaging conversation between broadcaster Éanna ni Lamhna and 16 year old author Dara McAnulty (author of 'Diary of a Young Naturalist')
Thanks!
Fiona Hopkins
Festival Director
