The day an Astronaut came to our class
by Lucy Coyle
On Monday the 4th of November, Bob Thirsk, a Canadian astronaut, came to visit 6th Class. He was in Newport to present Chloe with her award for the Mayo Dark Skies logo competition.
While Bob was here, he told us some facts about space. He said that when you're in space you grow 3cm taller. He also told our class that in space they only had freeze dried food and that meant when they wanted food, they had to add water, so it was like liquid.
He mentioned that while in space your bones get weaker and your heart gets smaller so it;s like staying in bed for 6 months. Bob said he had to exercise for 2 hours each day.
I'm so glad that we got to meet a real astronaut who spent 205 days in space. It was really inspiring.
