Marine Explorers
In December, 2nd and 3rd class took part in a science workshop as part of the Marine Institute’s Young Explorers program. Duncan Warner from the Marine Explorer club visited the classroom and spoke to the children about the range of biodiversity found in Irish coastal waters. As part of the workshop the children undertook a project. They created a booklet ‘Marine Biodiversity in Ireland’ containing factfiles on a range of animals found in Irish marine habitats. They also created clay figurines of animals they wrote about. The children got to observe Duncan dissecting a squid in the classroom and learned all about the anatomy of this amazing creature. Each child was also presented with a certificate for taking part in the Young Explorers program.
